Individually, each Data Steward has management and policy-making responsibilities for their specific data subject areas. Data classification is a way of identifying and categorizing the risks associated with certain types of data. Data classification is a necessary first step in choosing appropriate storage options, purchasing new software or hardware, and using external services or infrastructure for research data. Researchers and Data Stewards work together to protect and share data responsibly.
